Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Rep. Mark Pocan (WI-02) released the following statement after the United States Supreme Court announced its decision in Obergefell v. Hodges to establish marriage equality in all 50 states

"Today, the Supreme Court has reaffirmed what a majority of Americans already know: all couples should have the right to marry, regardless of who they love," said Rep. Mark Pocan. "This a historic step forward toward fulfilling the promise of equality for all Americans."

"As we celebrate this victory, we must also recognize that we still have work to do to ensure all Americans are treated fairly under the law, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. In a majority of states you can now marry freely, but can still be fired because of who you love."
